Diablos Struggle; Lose Rubber Match

June 3, 2010 El Paso, TX - After a night of good hitting, the Diablos struggled at the plate as they dropped the rubber match to Shreveport-Bossier Thursday night 8-1 at Cohen Stadium. El Paso has now lost nine out of their last ten games.

Amad Stevens was given the start for the Diablos allowing five runs on nine hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. After pitching two solid innings, Stevens allowed four runs in the top of the third when Christopher Garcia and Bryan Frichter both hit two run home runs to give the Captains a 4-0 lead. Stevens also gave up a RBI double in the top of the fourth.

The Diablos couldn't get the bats going all night as they only managed one run all night. After five scoreless innings, Jonathon Reynoso got on base with a single in the bottom of the sixth which would lead to a single by Arnoldo Ponce. With runners at the corners Mike Provencher hit a sacrifice into left field that brought Reynoso home for the Diablos only run of the night.

The Diablos managed only six hits on the night. No Diablo had more than one hit. Arnoldo Ponce did have one hit to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. The hitting star on the night was Shreveport's Bryan Sabatella who went 3-4 with an RBI. Sabatella ended the series with nine hits against El Paso pitching.

El Paso will open up a new series Friday night in El Paso hosting Grand Prairie for a three games over the weekend. D.J. Mattox (1-3) will make the start for the Diablos.
