Detroit City FC News Release
Detroit, Michigan - Detroit City FC is once again on the road for a midweek matchup in the USL Championship, this time away to Hartford Athletic. Kickoff for Wednesday night's match is scheduled for 7 PM and the match will be streamed on ESPN+ and available on Sirius XM FC Channel 157.
Detroit City FC last took the pitch seven days ago and played to a 0-0 draw with the Charleston Battery following a three-hour weather delay. When the match kicked off, Charleston was sitting atop the Eastern Conference but Le Rouge did well to gain a foothold in the match and create a few dangerous attacking opportunities.
The 0-0 draw against Charleston extended Le Rouge's unbeaten streak to three matches and was also the club's third consecutive clean sheet after holding San Antonio FC and the Birmingham Legion scoreless in previous weeks.
Defender Brett Levis, newly acquired from FC Tulsa, will be available for selection on Wednesday night for the first time since joining Detroit City FC.
Hartford Athletic comes into the midweek matchup having played an intense 1-1 draw on the road to Indy Eleven on Saturday 6/10. Hartford played up a man for nearly 44 minutes as forward Antoine Hoppenot was able to draw a red card out of Indy's Adrian Die Pe inside seven minutes.
Hartford themselves would see red to go down to ten men shortly into the second half with Tristian Hodge picking up his second yellow card of the match just before the 50th minute. This would mean a lot of running for those who remained on the pitch to make up the space created by being a man down.
Wednesday's match will feature a reunion with forward Antoine Hoppenot who played a vital part in Detroit City FC's maiden voyage in the USL Championship, leading the league in assists. Since joining Hartford Athletic in the offseason ahead of the 2023 season, Hoppenot has appeared and started in 13 matches, totaling 1090 minutes of play. Hoppenot currently has one goal contribution on the season, an assist away to the Oakland Roots in a 2-1 win on 4/16.
The Athletic currently sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, having picked up 10 points from 13 matches. They also currently hold the worst goal differential in the Eastern Conference with a total of -9 on the season.
Following Wednesday's match, Le Rouge will travel to Memphis to take on Memphis 901 FC on Saturday evening at AutoZone Park. Last season it was 901 FC who knocked Le Rouge out of the USL Championship Playoffs.
