LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws were one out away from a big come-from-behind win Thursday night. The Hagerstown Suns, however, had other plans.
With two outs and the tying run on first, J.P. Ramirez lined an RBI triple to left center to tie the game. The Suns would add four more runs in the top of the ninth to help seal an 11-7 win.
Ramirez would go 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs for Hagerstown.
Eric Massingham (0-1) took the loss for the BlueClaws, allowing all five runs on four hits in the ninth. Mitchell Clegg (1-0) was credited with the win.
The BlueClaws rallied back from a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the fifth, one in sixth, and two in the seventh. With two outs and the score tied at five, Darin Ruf singled, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on an Adam Buschini base hit to give Lakewood their first lead since 1-0.
Kyle Lafrenz then doubled off the top of the wall in center, bringing home Buschini for a two-run lead.
The Suns would not go down quietly. Adrian Nieto scored on a sac-fly to bring Hagerstown within one in the eighth, setting the stage for their massive ninth inning comeback.
With the win the Suns move into a second place tie at 8-7 with the BlueClaws and the Hickory Crawdads, one game back of the first place Delmarva Shorebirds.
Tomorrow night at 7:05pm it'll be a battle of left-handed aces, as Lakewood's Nick Hernandez (2-0 1.29) squares off against Daniel Rosenbaum (1-0 0.52).
