Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - For the first time all season, the Augusta GreenJackets lost their third straight game and did so for the third straight night in a contest that wasn't even close at the end. The Savannah Sand Gnats belted 17 hits to defeat the Jackets 16-4 in front of 4,229 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium on the season's first Thirsty Thursday.

Savannah jumped in front early off BJ Salsbury on Wilmer Flores' third inning two-run double to take an early 2-0 lead. Augusta answered in the bottom of the frame on John Eshleman's two-run single after Sand Gnats starter Taylor Whitenton walked the bases full to start the frame. With the bases loaded, Whitenton's final pitch of the night drilled Chris Dominguez on the helmet to give the GreenJackets their only lead.

The Sand Gnats followed with 14 unanswered runs - scoring twice in the fourth to take the lead on RBI hits by Dock Doyle and Pedro Zapata - before adding five more each in the fifth and seven innings and two in the ninth. Dominguez doubled with two outs in the last of the ninth to bring home the fourth Augusta run.

Flores brought in three runs with a double and home run for Savannah. Alonzo Harris had a grand slam as part of a three-hit night while Pedro Zapata drove in four for the Sand Gnats. Dominguez and Luke Anders had two hits each for the GreenJackets to pace an eight-hit night.

Salsbury (2-1) was rocked for the first time all year in the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts. Lance Hoge (2-0) earned the win with two innings of scoreless, one-hit baseball for the Gnats, walking three. Darrin Gorski earned the unusual save, his first of the year, by allowing one run on four hits over the final five innings.

The GreenJackets have been outscored in this four-game series with the Sand Gnats by a 36-11 margin. With a win in Friday's series finale, Augusta avoids the sweep and would earn a homestand split before heading out on an eight-game road trip beginning Saturday.

Zack Wheeler (0-2, 16.20) takes the mound for the Jackets to face fellow righty Armando Rodriguez (0-2, 3.68) on T-Shirt Night, presented by Petsch Respiratory with free T-Shirts going to the first 1,000 fans through the gates. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW-AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.

Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
