Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper Proclaims Burgundy Week Ahead of Colorado Rapids Playoff Game

DENVER - Mayor John Hickenlooper has officially proclaimed the week of October 25 as "Burgundy Week," in honor of the Rapids hosting their first-ever playoff game at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

Mayor Hickenlooper and the Colorado Rapids are encouraging fans to wear burgundy all week in support of the Rapids' playoff match against the Columbus Crew on Thursday, October 28 at 7 p.m. MT.

"This is an exciting time for our club, the city and our fans," said Rapids Head Coach Gary Smith. "Our team has produced one of its best home records since opening Dick's Sporting Goods Park due to the massive support and passion of Colorado soccer fans. I wouldn't expect anything less this Thursday as we start our journey towards bringing the MLS Cup to Denver."

Mayor Hickenlooper - and players and coaches from the Denver Broncos, Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche - are supporting the Rapids quest to bring another Championship to Denver. The Rapids host the 2008 MLS Cup Champion Columbus Crew on Thursday, October 28 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 7 p.m. MT in a game televised live nationally on ESPN2.

In proclaiming this week as "Burgundy Week," the Mayor is encouraging all Coloradoans to get behind the Rapids and show the rest of the country and a national television audience how passionate Colorado fans are for the World's Game.
