Sporting Kansas City News Release

(October 25, 2010) - The Kansas City Wizards concluded their 2010 season on Saturday with a resounding 4-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in the team's final game ever at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Wizards finished in third place in the Eastern Conference with an 11-13-6 record in Manager Peter Vermes first full season in charge. Kansas City was the last team eliminated from contention for the 2010 MLS Cup playoffs, which begin Thursday on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m. CT.

The Wizards will continue to train at their Swope Park Training Facility in the coming weeks as the team looks ahead to a much-anticipated 2011 season that will be highlighted by the opening of a state-of-the-art stadium currently under construction in Kansas City, Kansas and the introduction of Designated Player Omar Bravo, currently on-loan to Chivas Guadalajara.

This week also brings a special showing of the documentary soccer film Pelada to the Glenwood Theatre in Overland Park, Kansas at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. It marks only the third time the feature-length film has shown in the Kansas City area, and Wizards defender Matt Besler will make an appearance to sign autographs immediately following the screening.

Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased online, with proceeds helping support the Kansas City Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. There will also be a silent auction and raffle prizes to raise money for the cause.

Glenwood Theatre is located at 9575 Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park, Kansas, on the east side of the Metcalf Shopping Center.

Please note: The Wizards are accepting initial payments for season tickets for the 2011 season, highlighted by the debut of Chivas Guadalajara star and Mexico international Omar Bravo, and the opening of Kansas City's state-of-the-art soccer stadium next summer. Visit KCWizards.com or call 888-4KC-GOAL to make an initial payment to reserve seats.
