Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD -- The Keys equaled their longest win streak of the season, coming through victorious in their fourth straight game by beating the Lynchburg Hillcats, 4-2 on Sunday night.
It looked like a long night early for Luis Ramirez and the Keys. Ramirez allowed the Hillcats to load the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning. Pedro Powell would score when Brian Bock ran into the dugout to catch Brad Correll's foul ball, but that would be all the damage Lynchburg could do.
But Ramirez would settle down to allow just three more hits the rest of the way and the Keys offense would help his cause in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carlos Duran led the inning off with a triple to right center field, then scored on Mario Delgado's sacrifice fly. Tripper Johnson hit a two out double to left field and then scored on Jake Duncan's single to left field, giving the Keys a 2-1 lead.
It would stay at that score until the top of the eighth inning when Mike Carlin singled to drive in Pedro Powell, tying the score at two.
But Mario Delgado would come through in the bottom of the eighth inning, hitting a one out double to drive in Carlos Duran. Delgado later scored on Tripper Johnson's single to give the Keys a 4-2 win.
Manuel Basilio (1-0) would earn the win getting the final hitter out in the top of the eighth inning. Jim Hoey earned his sixth save in six chances, tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Keys and Hillcats will play the final game of their three game series on Monday beginning at 7 PM. Starters for both teams are yet to be determined.
KEYNOTES: OF Nolan Reimold and RHP Radhames Liz played in the XM MLB All-Star Futures Game at Pittsburgh's PNC Park. In the 6th inning Liz faced Reimold, getting him to fly out to left field. Liz tossed a scoreless inning.
Monday is Bark At The Park Night, where fans can bring their dogs out to Harry Grove Stadium. Fans must pre-register their dogs before bringing them to the park by calling the Keys Group Events Dept at 301-815-9900.
