Winston-Salem scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning in route to a 6-5 victory over Kinston on Sunday afternoon at Grainger Stadium. RBI's by the Warthogs Sean Smith and Victor Mercedes were the difference. Warthogs win snaps Kinston's three game winning streak.
Down 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, an RBI double by Jordan Brown scored Brandon Pinckney and knotted the game at four. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Jose Constanza scored from third base on a wild pitch by Warthog pitcher Fernando Hernandez. The K-Tribe took the 5-4 lead to the ninth only to be undone by timely Warthog hitting. Mike Finocchi (0-1) took the loss for the K-Tribe, giving up two hits it the ninth. It was just the second time in 44 games that Kinston lost when taking a lead into the ninth inning. Fernando Hernandez (5-3) notched the win for Winston-Salem.
Brown and Constanza each had three hits for Kinston, Matt Whitney went 2 for 5. Kinston will finish up this series with a special 11AM start on Monday morning. Kinston sends Kevin Dixon to the mound.
