
Deitsch and Martin continue historic year

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud members of the United Hockey League, announce that forward Jason Deitsch and Goaltender Joel Martin have been selected to the UHL's All-Rookie Team.
Deitsch, who was honored as the K-Wings' Kalamazoo Public Schools Rookie of the Year, led all UHL Rookies in scoring with 87 points (38 goals, 49 assists).
During the season, Deitsch earned the UHL's Easton Rookie of the Month two times (February and April) and earned a Sher-Wood Player of the Week (February 6th) and Player of the Month (February). Deitsch also finished the regular season by registering a point in 32 of his last 34 games.
Like Deitsch, Martin's rookie campaign will also go down in K-Wings lore. The netminder, who shattered the UHL's record for most shutouts in a season (9) and led the league in Goals Against Average (2.20) and Save Percentage (0.921).
Earlier this month, Martin was honored by the team, as their Kalamazoo Gazette Most Valuable Player. Martin also received his share of hardware from the UHL, as he skated away with three Southern Sports Supply Goaltender of the Week Awards. The native of Three Hills, Alberta also received the Southern Sports Supply Goaltender and Easton Rookie of the Month for November.
Martin's dominating play earned him a trip to the 2006 UHL All-Star Classic, where he started for Team Gatorade.
Deitsch and Martin become the first K-Wings players to earn a spot on the leagues UHL All-Rookie Team.
The duo will be back on the ice this Wednesday (4/26) night, as the K-Wings continue "Destination: Colonial Cup" against the Motor City Mechanics in Game Four of their Best of Seven Series. Kalamazoo leads the series three games to none.
Fans that want to watch Game Four, can come to the Icehouse Bar and Grille, located in the upper level of The Annex. Face-off from The Garage will be 7:30 p.m.
