Mallards Return Home with 2-0 Lead

Moline, IL-The Mallards won a pair of road games to open the 2006 Colonial Cup Playoffs presented by Galaxy One Marketing. The team beat the Eastern Division Champion Danbury Trashers by scores of 6-4 and 3-1 in Danbury to earn a 2-0 series lead. The scene shifts to The MARK for Games Three, Four and Five beginning on Wednesday night.

Tickets for Wednesday night's game are just $2 for any seat in the arena. Fans are encouraged to wear white as the Mallards "White Out" The MARK. Tickets are still available at The MARK box office or via Ticketmaster (563-326-1111 or ticketmaster.com). Game Four is Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. at The MARK. If necessary, Game Five will be played on Saturday at 7 p.m. at The MARK.

The Series So Far

The Mallards won Games One and Two in Danbury over the weekend. Quad City used a four-goal second period onslaught to capture Game One by a final of 6-4. On Saturday, Jason Tapp made 50 saves in a 3-1 Mallards victory.

Game One - Friday, April 21st - Quad City 6 at Danbury 4

The Mallards claimed a 6-4 victory in Game One of their 2006 Colonial Cup Quarterfinal Series presented by Galaxy One Marketing. Chad Woollard captured first star honors with a three-point performance (two goals and an assist) that included the game-winning tally. Jason Tapp made 42 saves in the Mallards net to earn his first win of the post-season. The teams exchanged first period goals to end the opening 20 minutes tied at one. David Hymovitz scored 12:41 into the opening period to stake the Trashers to a 1-0 lead. Matt Radoslovich answered with a power-play marker at 16:41 of the first. Radoslovich capitalized off a Glenn Detulleo dump-in that hit referee Pat Britt and sat in the left wing circle. The Mallards rookie shot the puck into an empty net as Trashers netminder Sylvain Daigle had left his crease to play the puck. In the second, the Mallards netted four goals in the first 7:14 of the period to open up a 5-1 edge. Jesse Rycroft scored at 2:43 of the middle frame to give the Mallards the lead for the first time at 2-1. The Mallards opened up a two-goal edge after captain Patrick Nadeau scored on a breakaway following a Trashers turnover. Quad City stretched the lead to 4-1 thanks to a Chad Woollard goal that was scored off a Glenn Detulleo face-off win. Woollard added a power-play marker to complete the Mallards second period onslaught with Quad City leading 5-1. The Trashers scored twice in the second half of the middle period to cut the Mallards lead to 5-3. Shawn Collymore recorded a shorthanded marker at 11:40 of the second to shift the momentum in the Trashers' favor. David Beauregard added a power-play marker at 17:39 of the frame to set the score at 5-3 after two periods. The Mallards added another power-play marker 8:14 into the third to open up a 6-3 lead. The Samy Nasreddine marker was assisted by Woollard and Radoslovich. Danbury added a late 5-on-3 power-play goal by Drew Omicioli to set the final score at 6-4 in favor of the Mallards.

Game Two - Saturday, April 22nd - Quad City 3 at Danbury 1

A spectacular effort by Jason Tapp earned the Mallards a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven series vs. Danbury. Tapp made 50 saves in the Mallards 3-1 win including 38 in the final two periods. Matt Radoslovich, Chad Woollard and Jesse Rycroft scored the goals in the win. For a second consecutive game, the teams traded first period goals. Jean-Michel Daoust recorded his first goal of the post-season just 89 seconds into the game. The Mallards answered on an unassisted shorthanded goal by Matt Radoslovich. Radoslovich broke into Danbury territory on a 2-on-1 break and fired a shot past Sylvain Daigle to tie the game. In the second, the Trashers outshot Quad City 19-5 but could not beat Jason Tapp. The Kelowna, British Columbia native stopped all 19 shots in the middle frame to hold the Mallards in the contest. Chad Woollard gave the Mallards the lead 16:56 into the middle period on the Mallards third shot of the frame. Woollard scored off a feed from Radoslovich to give the Mallards their first lead of the game. Tapp withstood another charge by Danbury in the third period. The acrobatic netminder made 19 saves in the final frame to preserve the Mallards lead before Jesse Rycroft scored into an empty net with 1:28 left. The goal was Rycroft's second of the post-season.
