IceHogs grab 2-0 series lead to open postseason

The Rockford IceHogs opened the 2006 Colonial Cup Playoffs and took care of business on home ice. The IceHogs topped the Fort Wayne Komets in Games One and Two to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series against its division rivals. The series will swing to Fort Wayne, Ind. for Games Three and Four.

-Winger Billy Tibbetts was placed on two-game UHL Suspension on Friday, April 21.

-Winger Billy Tibbetts was re-assigned to Rockford from the Chicago Wolves (AHL) on Friday, April 21.

Bacon Bits:

Rookie winger Chaz Johnson netted four goals over the weekend, the most for an IceHogs rookie in a playoff series.

Through 74 regular season games, Rockford netted 10 shorthanded goals. In its past four contests, the IceHogs have scored five shorthanded tallies.

Over the two-game weekend against Fort Wayne, the IceHogs scored 11g-17a-28pts. Of the 28 points, 19 of them were scored by rookies.

In his first two career professional games, rookie winger Mike Letizia accumulated a pair of assists and a plus/minus rating of +6.

Rockford's overall plus/minus rating against Fort Wayne in the opening round of the Colonial Cup Playoffs is +37 through two games.

Rockford's seven goals in Game One is a new club record for most goals in a playoff game.

Rookie center Steve Yetman became the first IceHogs skater to register two shorthanded points (1g-1a) in a postseason game on Friday.

Hot Hog Week 27:

Rookie winger Chaz Johnson was a catalyst in Rockford's two First Round games over the weekend. Johnson scored four goals and chipped in an assist in helping the IceHogs leap out to a 2-0 series lead over the Fort Wayne Komets.

Tuesday, April 25 at Fort Wayne Komets. Game time is 6:30 p.m. Game Three of the Colonial Cup Playoffs' First Round: The best-of-seven series shifts to Fort Wayne for Game Three as the IceHogs look to put the Komets down a 3-0 hole.

Thursday, April 27 at Fort Wayne Komets. Game time is 6:30 p.m. Game Four of the Colonial Cup Playoffs' First Round: The Western Division rivals drop the puck for Game Four at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Friday, April 28 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. (if necessary) Game time is 7:30 p.m. Game Five of the Colonial Cup Playoffs' First Round: If Fort Wayne can win either Game Three or Four, Game Five will be played at the Rockford MetroCentre on Friday.

Saturday, April 29 at Fort Wayne Komets. (if necessary) Game time is 6:30 p.m. Game Six of the Colonial Cup Playoffs' First Round: The Komets need to win two contests this week over Rockford to force Game Six. The sixth will be played in Fort Wayne if necessary.

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all of the IceHogs' Post Season games on Rockford's Voice, WNTA-AM 1330. Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with the B2 Networks! Log on to the IceHogs Web site (icehogs.com) and click on the "click here to watch the game live" icon, and for just $6, you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer. New to the network this season is ESPN Radio "The Jock" 1380 AM. The Jock will broadcast 20 Hogs games during the regular season. Check your local listings. Also, fans with Insight Cable television can tune in to Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season. The broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 20 minutes before the puck drops. Make sure to give your opinion during the 10th Inning Bar and Grill Post-Game Call-In Show following each home game at (815) 874-8255.

The Rockford IceHogs would like to extend an apology to all the Hogs fans who have tried to listen or view the broadcast on icehogs.com through the B2 Networks when the team is in Fort Wayne. The Komets have chosen not to adhere to league rules and do not have B2 Network access in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at this time. IceHogs fans can catch all the Hogs games, home and away via broadcast and video through the B2 Network on icehogs.com all season, with the exception of the games played in Fort Wayne. The UHL is currently addressing the situation in Fort Wayne and we will let you know if anything changes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have created.
