Augusta Lynx News Release
As the 2005-06 ECHL Season draws ever-closer, the Augusta Lynx announced today that defenseman Ryan Thrussell and forward Doug Scatchard have agreed to terms with the club.
The 24-year-old Thrussell enters his first year of professional hockey after completing three years with the University of British Columbia. In 66 games, the Vancouver, BC native recorded 11 goals and 36 points. Prior to playing at university, the 6-1, 200 lb. rearguard spent four years in the Western Hockey League with Portland, Prince Albert, and Tri City, appearing in 221 contests and notching eight goals, 55 points, and 181 minutes in penalties.
"Ryan is a well-rounded defenseman who has good mobility for his size," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson. "He's got a good offensive component to his game, while being able to keep opponents honest in his own end."
Scatchard, also 24, returns to the ECHL after spending 44 games with the Corpus Christi Rayz of the Central Hockey League last season. While there, Scatchard potted four goals and 10 points with 70 PIMs. The 6-0, 190 lb. wing last saw ECHL action with the Roanoke Express, where he compiled 10 goals and 22 points with 107 PIMs in 65 games.
"He's a gritty, hard-nosed wing who's good in the corners, and is responsible defensively," said Ferguson of Scatchard. "He definitely can use his size well."
Scatchard's brother, Dave, plays with the NHL's Boston Bruins.
Thrussell bring the number of defenseman to seven for the Lynx this year along with Treavor Peterson, Shaun Fisher, Marty Lapointe, Eric Lundberg, Ken Scuderi, and Phil Cole. Up front, the Lynx have Scatchard, Ryan Lang, Brian Passmore, Doug Wright, Jake Riddle, Chris Chaput, Jimmy Callahan, Rich Hansen, Ryan Bennett, Colt King, Sam Ftorek, and James Massen. Training camp will open Sunday, October 9th.
