
Inferno sign two Quebec natives

COLUMBIA, SC (September 30, 2005) - The Columbia Inferno announce the signing of defensemen Philippe Lauze and forward Mark Hurtubise.
Lauze, 6'2, 235 lbs., Repentigny, Quebec native played 55 games with the Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League, scoring seven goal and 20 assists in his rookie season. Prior to turning professional, he played five seasons with the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He skated in 270 games, scoring 10 goals, 43 assists and 705 penalty minutes. Lauze attended the Iowa Stars training camp of the American Hockey League earlier this week.
"Philippe comes to Columbia from the CHL after a successful year with the Laredo Bucks," said Head Coach Ted Dent. "He is an offensive minded defensemen that sees the ice well and we hope he can make the transition to the ECHL as quick as possible."
Entering his rookie season, Hurtubise has played the last five years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Quebec Remparts and the Val-d'Or Foreurs. The 6'2, 185 lbs., Montreal, Quebec native played 247 games, scoring 63 goals, 98 assists and 130 penalty minutes.
"Mark comes highly recommended from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He can play center or the wing position and will give us some depth in the forward position," said Coach Dent.
