YOUNGSTOWN, OH - Youngstown Phantoms' defenseman Jeppe Urup has announced his commitment to play for Sacred Heart University (Atlantic Hockey) following his time in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Phantoms.

The 6'2 195 lbs. right shot defenseman from Odense, Denmark was acquired by the Phantoms from the Sioux Falls Stampede in a February 7th, 2019 trade for Future Considerations.

This season with the Stampede and Phantoms, Urup has played 46 regular USHL season games and has a 3-12-15 line with 10 penalty minutes.

"I felt I really connected with the Sacred Heart staff and believe it is the perfect place for me to continue to develop as a person and hockey player" said Urup. "Academically Sacred Heart is a great fit for me and I love the campus and area around the school. I am looking forward to joining the program this fall and being a key piece to their winning team and culture. I came to the United States last season to earn an opportunity to go to college and play NCAA hockey like this and I am very thankful to the staff members in Sioux Falls and in Youngstown. I can now focus with the rest of my teammates on a strong playoff run knowing my future is secure."

"Congratulations from our staff and organization to Jeppe for making his college decision "said Phantoms' General Manager Jason Koehler. "Jeppe is the "newest" Phantom with us after only spending the last two months in purple and orange, but since the trade he's been a huge boost and calming presence to our blue line. When we made the trade we were looking to replace recently and then injured defensemen Steven Holtz and Gianfranco Cassaro who had just went down in late January. We felt we were getting a solid junior and international experienced defenseman in the trade, but we had no idea he would mean as much and be as valuable to us as he has been so far. He has fit right in with our team and players and I know the staff and players have embraced and valued him right from the start - it's been a very beneficial marriage for both parties since day one. Jeppe has been able to achieve his goal of coming to the US and playing college hockey and we are thrilled to be a part of his development and helping him achieve his dreams, but all the credit and hard work is his."

Sacred Heart plays in the Atlantic Hockey Conference of the NCAA Division I college hockey ranks and is located in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Former Phantoms' forward Jason Cotton and defenseman Marcus Joseph currently attend Sacred Heart.
