The Somerset Patriots defeated the Hartford Yard Goats on Thursday night by a final score of 5-3 at TD Bank Ballpark. The win snapped a season-high three-game losing streak for the Patriots.
With 12 more strikeouts in the game, the Patriots pitching staff struck out 36 batters combined in the first three games of the series with the Yard Goats.
RHP Bailey Dees (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 9 K) started the game and earned his first Double-A win as a starting pitcher.
For a second consecutive start, Dees set new career-highs in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (9). Dees' nine strikeouts are the most by a Patriots pitcher in a game this year.
RHP Jack Neely (1.0 IP, 1 K) earned his second save of the season with a perfect ninth inning. In his fourth scoreless outing to start the year, Neely improved his scoreless streak to 5.2 innings, in which he has struck out 10 batters.
1B Ben Rice (2-for-4, RBI, 2 R, HR) secured multiple hits and a home run for the second straight day. Now with three home runs, Rice ranks second on the Patriots behind fellow catcher Agustin Ramirez (7).
C JC Escarra (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R, K) amassed multiple hits for the second time in three games of the series and gave the Patriots their fifth and final run with a solo homer in the third inning.
The homer was Escarra's first as a member of the New York Yankees organization and his first in affiliated Minor League Baseball since September 9, 2021 when he was playing for the Orioles' Triple-A Norfolk.
