HARRISBURG, Pa. - Ryan Murphy allowed one run and struck out six and Wil Jensen was nearly perfect over three relief innings as the Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the Harrisburg Senators, 6-2, on Thursday night at FNB Field.
The Flying Squirrels (5-7) worked nine walks to help bring across six runs through the first five innings to pick up their first win in this week's road series against the Senators (5-6).
Murphy (Win, 1-1) allowed one run, a solo homer by Brady House in the first, over five innings and struck out six batters. Jensen (Save, 1) allowed one baserunner, a one-out single in the ninth, and struck out five batters to close the game.
Carter Howell led off the second inning with a triple and came in to score on a groundout by Adrián Sugastey to tie the game, 1-1.
In the fourth, Damon Dues reached on an infield single and a throwing error allowed Howell to score to give the Flying Squirrels a 2-1 lead.
After the first two batters of the fifth were retired, seven straight Richmond hitters reached base in a four-run inning. Vaun Brown hit a two-run double and later scored on a wild pitch. Will Wilson added a bases-loaded walk to open a 6-1 lead.
The Senators closed the score to 6-2 with a sacrifice fly by Cortland Lawson.
Dues and Howell both reached base four times in the game. Dues went 3-for-4 with a walk and Howell was 2-for-3 with two walks and scored three runs.
