Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Craig Dedelow belted his team-leading 16th home run of the season on Tuesday, but the Dash fell 5-1 to the Salem Red Sox at BB&T Ballpark.
With Winston-Salem (30-33, 68-59) trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Dedelow stepped to the plate with two outs against Salem (37-27, 62-69) reliever Dominic LoBrutto. The lefty slugger then blasted a solo shot into the right field seats. The solo homer ended a stretch of 36.1 innings without a run for the Dash offense.
However, prior to Dedelow's home run, the Red Sox pitching staff shut down the Dash's offense. After starter Thaddeus Ward was removed from the game due to injury, Logan Browning (2-1) and Yoan Aybar combined to pitch 6.1 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits. Lobrutto then allowed just one run across two innings of work.
The Red Sox took an early lead against Dash starter Jorgan Cavanerio (8-3) in the top of the first. With one out, Victor Acosta reached on an infield single. Then, Devlin Granberg laced a double down the right-field line to score Acosta and make it 1-0.
Salem added to its lead in the top of the third. Following a groundout by Acosta, Granberg was hit by a pitch before Keith Curcio singled to put runners at first and second. The next batter, Kyle Cottam, belted a three-run homer into left-center field to push the lead to four runs.
In the top of the eighth, the Red Sox added to their lead. With two outs, Tanner Nishioka drew a walk before stealing second base. Following Nishioka's steal, Jagger Rusconi singled into center field to score Nishioka to make it 5-0.
Winston-Salem continues its series with Salem on Wednesday night. Left-hander Konnor Pilkington (3-9, 5.36 ERA) will take the hill for the Dash against right-hander Daniel Gonzalez (5-9, 4.23 ERA). First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast, MiLB.tv and the TuneIn Radio App. Pregame coverage commences at 6:45 p.m.
The series with Salem continues with Winston Wednesday, with $10 presale tickets and the Dash wearing their retro Warthogs jerseys. Thursday, August 29, will be the final regular season home game of the 2019 season. The home finale is a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday and a Pups in the Park Night presented by Handy and Handy Orthodontics. Additionally, there will be a Food Truck Festival prior to the game.
