Spire City Ghost Hounds News Release
Frederick, MD - May 11, 2023 - Frederick right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus had his contract purchased by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday, May 11. He is the first player in Frederick ALPB's history to have their contract purchased by a Major League Baseball organization. He will report to their Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers.
de Geus appeared in five games with Frederick, pitching to a 3.00 ERA and striking out six batters. Opponents hit just .250 against him over six innings.
de Geus returns to affiliated baseball, where he most recently pitched in 2022 with the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
At just 25 years old, he already boasts big-league experience, having pitched in 47 games in 2021 between the Rangers and Diamondbacks, after being selected in the Rule 5 draft prior to the 2021 season.
Originally from Pleasanton, California, de Geus was a 33rd round pick by the Dodgers in 2017 out of Cabrillo College. He was a Midwest League All-Star in 2019, a year in which he also earned Rising Star honors in the Arizona Fall League.
