Spire City Ghost Hounds News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Ghost Hounds and Ducks played in the blistering heat again on Wednesday, with the Hounds falling short in the ninth, and dropping their second straight by an 8-5 score.
After both teams were held scoreless in the first two innings, Alejandro De Aza opened the scoring with a two run double against starter Zac Rosscup in the third inning. An Ernie Geraci sac fly, and Ruben Tejada single doubled the lead, putting the Ducks ahead 4-0 in the fourth.
Craig Dedelow put the Ghost Hounds on the board with his 24th home run of the season to lead off the fourth inning, but the Ducks got back-to-back solo shots from Sam Travis and Alex Dickerson the very next inning.
Osvaldo Abreu kept the power surge going when he hit a solo homer in the fifth. Chris Shaw added another home run in the seventh, a two-run blast to bring the score to 7-4. Brantley Bell then doubled in a run in the top of the eighth to give the Ducks some added insurance.
The Ghost Hounds tried to rally in the ninth inning, even getting a run across on a groundout to make it 8-5. The rally fell short when Luke Becker was tagged out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch that took a hard ricochet off of the backstop, as the Hounds fell by the 8-5 final.
Notes:
- The Ghost Hounds threw out two runners at the plate on assists from Craig Dedelow and Jose Marmolejos
