
Dayton Avoids Sweep with 6-5 Win over Lake County

(Dayton, OH) - Brent Peterson led off the ninth inning with a triple and scored the tying run to push the game to extra innings. In the tenth, Dayton (1-2) loaded the bases with one out and won the game on an infield single by Tanner Rahier. The final was 6-5. Lake County (2-1) is now 0-4 in extra innings.
Dayton scored first, in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs, Daniel Pigott tripled and was doubled home by Sammy Diaz. Junior Arias then singled Diaz home and the score was 2-0 Dayton after three innings. After four innings it was 4-0 Dayton. The Dragons scored a pair in the bottom half of the fourth when Tanner Rahier singled and raced home to score on a Zach Vincej triple and then Vincej scored on a passed ball. The lead was 4-0 Dayton.
Lake County scored twice in the sixth inning, including once on a passed ball and the lead was halved to 4-2. Lake County took the lead in the top of the eighth inning. After two walks in the inning, Anthony Santander came to the plate. On a 0-2 pitch Santander blasted a pitch over the left field wall for a three run homer. The homerun was the second in as many days and the fourth of the season for Santander. Lake County had a 5-4 lead headed to the ninth inning.
Robbie Aviles (1-2) started the game for the Captains and did not get a decision. Aviles pitched four innings and allowed four runs. Three of the runs were earned. Aviles allowed six hits, and one walk. Robbie also hit one batter and struck out two. Luis Morel pitched two innings in relief and pitched two innings allowing two hits, one walk and he struck out one. Cody Penny pitched two perfect innings for Lake County. Louis Head (0-2) took the loss. Head allowed two earned runs in one and one third innings. He allowed four hits, one intentional walk and three strikeouts.
Sal Romano (4-7) started for Dayton, and did not get a decision. Romano twirled six innings and allowed two unearned runs. Romano allowed just two hits and three walks. Romano fanned seven. Michael Saunders allowed two runs in one and two thirds innings of work. Sean Lucas (3-1) got the win after blowing the save in the eighth. Lucas pitched two and one third innings and allowed one earned run, and he struck out three. Lucas allowed the homerun to Santander in the eighth.
Sunday, Lake County will remain on the road and travel to Bowling Green, Kentucky to take on the Hot Rods in a three game series. In game one, Lake County will send RHP Jake Sisco (3-5, 3.25) to the mound to start the ballgame and BG will counter with RHP Reinaldo Lopez (2-3, 3.33). First pitch will be at 6:05 PM.
