Davis Leads Mainers To Victory

Sanford Mainers News Release


North Adams, MA - The Sanford Mainers rode a tremendous outing from starter Tripp Davis to a 3-2 road victory on Friday over the North Adams SteepleCats. The win moves the Mainers above .500 at 13-12 on the season.

The first run of the game came across for Sanford in the third. Marlon Calbi singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Brett Mollenhauer blooped a single into left field to score Calbi and give the Mainers a 1-0 lead.

In the seventh the Mainers added to their lead. Matt Verrier walked and was out at second on a fielder's choice that allowed Nick LaCroix to reach first. Justin Laisenheimer doubled to score LaCroix and make it 2-0 Mainers.

North Adams finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh for their first run of the game. Jacob Daniel singled and advanced to third on a ground-rule double off the bat of Steven Zavala. Cameron Griffin walked to load the bases and Mike Zavala ground into a fielder's choice to score Daniel and make it 2-1.

In the top of the eighth Sanford added another run to their total. With two outs Molenhauer singled and stole second. A wild pitch put him on third and scored on a Paul Kronenfeld single to push the Mainers lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the eighth the SteepleCats got one more. Chantz Mack singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by Jason Patten on a pick-off attempt. Michael LeBel grounded out to second to move Mack to third. A wild pitch allowed him to come in and cut the Sanford lead to 3-2.

Tyler Mizenko shut down North Adams to finish the game and seal the Sanford win.
