Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Bennett Davis had two clutch RBI singles, and three Hot Rods pitchers teamed up to hold the Midwest League's number one hitting team to just two runs on Saturday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and held on to beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-3.
The scoring started for Bowling Green in the bottom of the fourth when Gabe Cohen doubled to left and Davis sent him home on a RBI single a batter later. Davis would advance to third on a Dustin Biell single and would score on a Ty Morrison RBI groundout.
The very next inning, the Hot Rods would be at it again in an inning where they would bring nine men to the plate. Tyler Bortnick reached on a bunt single, and Ryan Wiegand was hit by a pitch. Last night's walk-off hero, Mark Thomas, would single home Bortnick on a ball to center field. With two outs in the inning, Davis would come up clutch again by driving home Wiegand on his second RBI single of the night. To cap it all off, Biell would single home Thomas to give the Hot Rods a 5-0 lead.
Hot Rods starter Albert Suarez would only last two innings in Saturday night's affair. The Hot Rods relievers that replaced him, Tyree Hayes and Aaron Dott, would be magnificent as they shut down the Midwest League's number one offense for most of the night. Besides a Michael Wing two-run home run off the batter's eye in center field, Hayes and Dott would dominate over the final seven innings, hurling a combined ten strikeouts.
The action doesn't stop at Bowling Green Ballpark Sunday as the Hot Rods continue their six-game home stand. Sunday is IGA KidsFest with the first 1,000 kids twelve and under receiving Hot Rods Back-2-School Lunch Boxes. It's also another Family Sunday presented by WNKY and a Smucker's® Uncrustables Fun Run.
The Hot Rods will look to take a commanding lead in the series as they attempt to make it two straight against Cedar Rapids. Bowling Green will send RHP Jason McEachern (4-8, 5.15) to the mound. He'll face RHP Fabio Martinez (6-2, 3.73) of the Kernels. For ticket information, visit www.bghotrods.com, call (270) 901-2121 or stop by the Hot Rods Ticket Office today.
