Kane County Cougars News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Kane County Cougars suffered their fourth straight loss Saturday night with a 6-4 defeat at the hands of the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond. Ian Krol got touched for six runs in three innings, and the Cougars never recovered.

Krol (7-4) labored through his worst outing of the season. He had given up two homers all season entering the outing and allowed two Saturday against the Loons, who lead the league in round-trippers. Krol worked a 1-2-3 first inning but gave up three in the second and three in the third, giving up a season-high seven hits and failing to record a strikeout for the first time this season. Max Peterson and Ryan Doolittle combined for five innings of one-hit shutout relief to give the Cougars a chance.

Trailing early, the Cougars scored in three straight innings to make a run. Conner Crumbliss doubled home Jose Crisotomo in the second, Max Stassi launched a two-run homer -- his 12th -- in the fourth and Anthony Aliotti delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-4, but that became the final. The Cougars stranded two in the fifth during that rally and also had two on with one out in the eighth but could not score. Elisaul Pimentel (9-3) won it, and Steve Ames notched his eighth save.

The Cougars (16-12, 48-49) and Loons (23-5, 66-31) play Game 2 of their series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 CT. Murphy Smith (5-0, 4.93) will oppose Josh Wall (7-4, 3.53). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online at www.kccougars.com with pre-game coverage starting at 1:50 p.m.
