June 13, 2019 - Southern League (SL1)
Mississippi Braves News Release

PEARL, MS - Mississippi Braves (30-35) left-hander Tucker Davidson struck out a career-high ten batters on Thursday night, but it wasn't enough in a 2-1 loss to the Mobile BayBears (26-38) at Trustmark Park.

Davidson came away with a no-decision in his 13th start of 2019. The Southern League All-Star surrendered just one unearned run over 5.1 innings, striking out ten and walking two on 101 pitches. Davidson exited the outing with a league-best 1.61 ERA.

Drew Waters went 1-for-4 and extended the longest active on-base streak in the Southern League to 21 games, and hitting streak to nine games, with a single in his third at-bat. Waters continues to pace Double-A baseball with a .326 batting average, 84 hits, and 32 extra-base hits. He has hit safely in 19 of the 21 games during the streak, which is three shy of the league's longest this season.

Both teams tallied runs in the first inning. Davidson struck out Angels top prospect Jo Adell to begin the game, but the next three reached base safely. Jhoan Urena singled home Jahmai Jones to put the visiting team up 1-0.

The lead didn't last long as Braves top prospect Cristian Pache welcomed BayBears starter Andrew Wantz to Double-A with a 407-foot homer down the left-field line. The leadoff homer was Pache's team-leading eighth on the season and fourth in June.

Davidson and Wantz threw up zeroes for the remainder of their starts, and reliever Thomas Burrows retired all five BayBears faced behind Davidson.

The BayBears broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning against Jeremy Walker (L, 1-5). Urena started the frame with a single and then scored two batters later on a double by Bo Way to make it 2-1. Walker, a Southern League All-Star gave up just one run on four hits over 2.0 innings without a walk and one strikeout. Over 52.2 innings, Walker has walked just three and struck out 47 in 16 appearances.

Mobile reliever Issac Mattson (W, 1-1) picked up the win, and Adam Hofacket (S, 2) recorded the save.
