Rome Renegades News Release

ROME, Ga. – Making the full time switch from high school football to the National Indoor Football League, David Humphreys is now adding to his coaching responsibilities the role of Chief Operations Officer. "David will be responsible for the daily operations of the Renegades team," said Harry Pierce, co-owner of the Rome Renegades. David resigned as Head Football coach of Rome High School after an eleven year career where his team won four region titles. "I am excited about the Rome Renegades and the opportunity that it will offer for both the expansion of my abilities at a professional level as well as the benefits it will bring to the city," David Humphreys said.

The NIFL is the fastest growing league in the sports industry with 22 teams since its inception in 2001. The Rome Renegades will begin their inaugural season on March 25, 2005. In addition to both the leadership and coaching assets of David Humphreys, the Renegade team will be coached by Oscar G. Dillard, Head Coach and General Manager. Coach Dillard said, "We are bringing together a great team here in Rome, a team united in its goal to win the NIFL championship. I am confident in David's role as both Defensive Coordinator and Chief Operations Officer. His contributions both on and off the field will only make us stronger." Together Coach Dillard and Coach Humphreys bring over 25 years of coaching experience to the Renegades. "I have not missed a football season since 1971," David Humphreys said, "and I am excited about beginning this one with a new type of football."

Rome is a football community, and David Humphreys has contributed to that with an impressive 42-8 record during his 4 years as Rome High's head coach. "I strongly believe this community will embrace the Rome Renegades. Fans can see the desire to win and the strive to make it happen, and I intend to carry that motivation for success in everything I do," David said. Gearing up for the inaugural season, the Renegades are preparing for mini-camp that will begin February 14. This four day camp will provide 45 men the opportunity to compete for the 30 team spots available. As the players are hard at work, the city is equally preparing for this exciting new endeavor. Season Tickets are on sale at the Forum Civic Center where the Renegades will play their 7 home games. The Rome Renegade fan shop and souvenir store is opening this week in downtown Rome at 315 Broad Street.
