Daytona Beach Hawgs News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Daytona Beach Hawgs have added to their quarterback depth with the signing of former C.W. Post signal caller Neal Sharma.

Sharma, a native of San Jose, Calif, threw for 1,574 yards and 16 touchdowns in nine games for C.W. Post in 2003. He had four consecutive 200-yard games at one point in the season, and threw five touchdowns in a half during a 56-7 rout of St. Anslem College.

"The videotape he sent was extremely impressive,'' said Hawgs Head Coach/General Manager Ervin Bryson. "We're in good shape at quarterback."

Sharma, who stands a 6-3, 210, led Oak Grove High School to a state championship in 1999, spent time with the programs at Eastern Washington and San Jose State. He transferred from San Jose State to Grossmont (Calif.) Junior College. He didn't play, but did earn an associate's degree.

"Coming to Daytona Beach is a great opportunity,'' Sharma said. "I want to get better as a player and Coach Bryson's system is perfect for a quarterback like me.

Sharma will battle for the starting position with Daytona Beach locals who also thrived at the small college level – Mainland's Isaac Hall (NW Oklahoma State) and Ty Lohman of Father Lopez (Kansas Wesleyan)

"Competition is only going to make us better,'' Sharma said. "Let the best man win."

The Hawgs open their inaugural National Indoor Football League season on March 19 against Lakeland, with the home opener against New Jersey set for March 24. Season tickets are available by calling the Ocean Center at (386) 254-4545.
