WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Thanks to a 12-hit effort, the Dash won their fifth straight game by defeating the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 5-2 on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem (34-24) got on the board early against Myrtle Beach (20-40) starter Erich Uelmen (1-1). With two outs in the bottom of the first, Steele Walker drew a walk. Jameson Fisher then smacked a double that one-hopped the wall in right-center field to score Walker and make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, the Dash added to their lead. To lead off the frame, Craig Dedelow crushed a 432-foot solo homer to right-center field to give the Dash a 2-0 lead. It was Dedelow's team-leading ninth home run of the season.
The Dash added on another run in the bottom of the fourth. After Fisher struck out to lead off the inning, Zach Remillard poked a double down the right-field line. Following a Dedelow strikeout, Carlos Perez deposited a single into right-center field to score Remillard and extend the lead to three runs.
In relief of starter Cristian Castillo, Zach Lewis (4-3) provided a strong outing out of the bullpen. Entering the game with one out in the third inning, Lewis worked three innings while allowing just one run on two hits. The right-hander also racked up three strikeouts compared to two walks.
Myrtle Beach cut into the lead in the top of the sixth. To lead off the frame, Luke Reynolds drew a walk from Lewis. Grant Fennell then singled before a Zach Davis walk loaded the bases. After striking out Carlos Sepulveda, Lewis was replaced by Will Kincanon, who hit Cam Balego with a pitch to score Reynolds and make it 3-1. But, Kincanon recorded the last two outs and Myrtle Beach stranded three runners to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Dash added two runs to their lead. With one out, Remillard blooped a single before Dedelow smacked a double into left field to make it 4-1. Dedelow finished the night 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two RBIs.
Continuing the rally, Perez drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Following a JJ Muno popout, Yeyson Yrizarri bounced a single through the middle to score Dedelow and push the lead to 5-1.
Myrtle Beach added a run in the top of the eighth thanks to a Cam Balego single, but Jose Nin closed out the ballgame by working a scoreless ninth.
The Dash continue their series with Myrtle Beach on Friday night. Right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio (1-0, 3.74 ERA) will square off with left-hander Luis Lego (1-3, 3.25 ERA) for Myrtle Beach.
