WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Chicago White Sox announced Thursday that infielder Nick Madrigal, who was selected fourth overall by the White Sox in the 2018 MLB Draft, has earned his first career promotion to Double-A Birmingham.

Madrigal, the number four overall prospect in the White Sox system and 43rd-best overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, hit .272 with two home runs, 10 doubles and 27 RBIs in 49 games with Winston-Salem this season. The former Oregon State University star also racked up 17 stolen bases, which is tied for third-best in the Carolina League.

Over his last 17 games in the Dash purple, Madrigal posted a .313 batting average with two home runs, six RBIs and nine stolen bases. The Elk Grove, Calif., native also struck out just one time over his last 78 plate appearances. Overall, Madrigal led the Carolina League with a 2.8% strikeout rate.

Between 2018-19, Madrigal played in 75 games with Winston-Salem. In the field, Madrigal committed just four errors in 326 total chances over that span, good for a .988 fielding percentage. The second baseman also posted two separate streaks of over 70 plate appearances without striking out.

During his college career at Oregon State, Madrigal was an integral part of the Beavers team that won the 2018 College World Series. In his sophomore season in 2017, Madrigal was named Pac-12 Player of the Year after posting a .380/.449/.532 batting line with four home runs and 40 RBIs in 60 games.

As a corresponding move, infielder Mitch Roman has been transferred to Winston-Salem from Double-A Birmingham. In 90 games for the Dash last season, Roman batted .293 with a .362 on-base percentage. The Dash's current active roster stands at 24 players, one shy of the Carolina League maximum, with four players on the injured list. A new roster is attached.

The Dash begin a four-game series with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Thursday night with a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday and a Pups in the Park Night presented by Handy and Handy Orthodontics. The series will continue with a Star Wars Night on Friday, a Live Music Saturday and a Lowes Foods Family Sunday. Kids Run the Bases, powered by New Balance Winston-Salem, will take place following Friday, Saturday and Sunday's games. For tickets and more information, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
