Dash Out-Slug Birds in Series Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash ripped 12 hits and plated five runs to take game one of the four-game series over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans by a score of 5-2 on Thursday night from BB&T Ballpark.

Winston Salem (34-24) found the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Jameson Fisher ripped a two-out, RBI double that gave the Dash a 1-0 lead.

Craig Dedelow then launched a solo homer in the second to extend the Dash lead to 2-0.

In the third inning, Carlos Perez laced a two-out RBI single that made it 3-0 in favor of the Dash.

Myrtle Beach put a run back on the board in the sixth inning when Cam Balego was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Luke Reynolds to cut the gap to 3-1.

The Dash erased the doubt in the bottom of the sixth inning when Dedelow launched an RBI double that made it 4-1 and Winston-Salem added another when Yeyson Yrizarri lined an RBI single that ballooned the lead to 5-1.

Balego singled home a run in the eighth that brought the Birds to within three, but Jose Nin entered in the ninth to lock down his sixth save of the season for the Dash in a 5-2 win.

Game two of the series between the Pelicans and the Dash will start at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night. Luis Lugo (1-3, 3.25) will take the hill for the Birds against Jorgan Cavanerio (1-0, 3.74) for the Dash.
