Winston-Salem Dash News Release
SALEM, Va. - Dash starter Brandon Brennan and relievers Manny Martinez and Danny Dopico combined to allow just two hits against Salem in a 6-0 win at LewisGale Field on Saturday night.
The trio retired a stretch of 19 batters in a row, before Jordan Procyshen reached on an error with two outs in the ninth inning. Salem (29-13) managed four baserunners in total and were hitless from the third inning onward.
Brennan allowed both hits, but held Salem off the scoreboard in his four innings of work. He was relieved by Martinez (1-1) after a 69-minute rain delay. Martinez was untouchable, throwing four perfect innings and striking out four batters. Dopico finished the game, picking up two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth.
The Dash (16-27) struck quickly in the first off Red Sox starter Dedgar Jimenez (2-2). Adam Engel hit a leadoff triple and Hunter Jones followed with an RBI single to put Winston-Salem up 1-0.
After going scoreless in the second and third, Winston-Salem put together a two-out rally in the fourth. After a four-pitch walk to Brett Austin and a Ryan Leonards hit by pitch, Cleuluis Rondon stroked an RBI single to center to give the Dash a two-run edge.
Winston-Salem scored their final tally off the Salem southpaw in the fifth inning. After Jones tripled to start the frame, Gerson Montilla brought him in on a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Montilla now has 15 RBIs in his last nine contests.
Jimenez would end his night throwing five innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs.
After the left-hander departed, the Dash added to their lead against Salem reliever German Taveras. With one on and one out in the sixth, Leonards crushed a two-run shot to left to put the Dash up 5-0.
Winston-Salem capped the scoring in the seventh with a Toby Thomas RBI double to push the lead to six.
The Dash are now 11-11 on the road and 4-2 against Salem in Virginia.
Winston-Salem resumes their four-game series against Salem on Sunday at LewisGale Field at 4:05 p.m. The Dash send right-hander Matt Cooper (2-3, 4.20 ERA) to the bump against Salem southpaw Trey Ball (2-0, 1.96 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 3:50 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio App.
