WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 29, 2012) - The Southwest Forsyth Little League Challenger team competed Saturday during the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., and the Winston-Salem Dash will honor them this Friday during the club's 7 p.m. game against Lynchburg at BB&T Ballpark.
The Dash made a donation to Southwest Forsyth Little League so that the team could make the trip to play in an exhibition against the Rhode Island District 2 program in advance of the International and United States championship games.
The game took place Saturday morning inside the famous Little League Volunteer Stadium and was aired on ESPN3 and UNCTV. Southwest Forsyth Little League, which has 40 players in its Challenger program, was the first team from North Carolina to compete in this special exhibition, which debuted in 2001.
"It was an experience of a lifetime," said Chuck DeLuca, the director of the Southwest Forsyth Little League Challenger League. "The Dash have been a supporter of ours for a long time, and the team has allowed us to provide this program to our league members."
The Dash will honor the group prior to the club's final regular season home game this Friday. The players will be introduced during pregame festivities at BB&T Ballpark.
"We are thrilled that these kids were able to head to one of baseball's most sacred spots for an incredible experience," Dash president Geoff Lassiter said. "The Southwest Forsyth Little League Challenger team represented the Triad well, and we can't wait to give Dash fans a chance to say thank you Friday night."
The Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a separate division of Little League that enables boys and girls with developmental and physical challenges, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy the game of baseball.
Dash fans can be a part of this special night at BB&T Ballpark and the rest of "Fan Appreciation Week" by purchasing their tickets for the final homestand. Call (336) 714-2287, log on to wsdash.com or visit the Dash's box office outside BB&T Ballpark from noon to 5 p.m. daily to secure your seats.
The Winston-Salem Dash are the Class-A Advanced minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call 336-714-2287 or visit www.wsdash.com .
