Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Blue Rocked... Wilmington smacked 13 hits, including a season-high five home runs on their way to an 11-3 bashing of Winston-Salem on Mon- day night at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
The Blue Rocks pounced on an erratic Gregory Infante for three runs in the first inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Mike Moustakes walked and Nick Van Stratten was hit by a pitch. Eric Hosmer followed with a three-run blast to give Wilmington an early 3-0 lead. Der- rick Robinson tacked on another run in the second inning with an RBI ground out that scored Ryan Eigsti.
After Nick Van Stratten lifted a solo shot off Infante in the third, Wilmington turned to the long ball again as Anthony Seratelli launched a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to put the Blue Rocks in front 8- 0. Infante (1-1) was removed from the game following Seratelli's round- tripper and charged with eight runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Winston-Salem finally put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when Dale Mollenhauer registered an RBI ground out. The Blue Rocks answered right back with another home run in the top of the sixth. This time, it was Derrick Robinson with a two-run shot off Dan Al- britton that extended Wilmington's advantage to 10-1.
Winston-Salem would muster a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth on consecutive RBI ground outs by Justin Greene and Tyler Kuhn. Wilmington put an exclamation point on the night as Johnny Giavotella led off the ninth inning with a solo home run off Wander Perez.
Wilmington starting pitcher Alex Caldera (4-8) was the benefici- ary of the offensive outburst as he worked five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He garnered his first win against the Dash in five starts this season.
Easy Eddy... Justin Edwards was recently named Carolina League pitcher of the week. The southpaw tossed seven shutout innings in Winston- Salem's 5-0 blanking of Potomac on Saturday night. He becomes the sec- ond Dash hurler to garner weekly honors joining Levi Maxwell, who earned the award for tossing a no-hitter against Wilmington on June 19.
Teeing Off... The Dash staff matched their season-high when they surren- dered five home runs last night. Potomac also mashed five round-trippers at Wake Forest Baseball Park on May 8.
Tons of Runs... With the walls lowered from 24 to 8 feet at hitter- friendly Wake Forest Baseball Park, Winston-Salem's home/road numbers vary mightily. The Dash hit .287 with 51 home runs at home compared to just .252 with 25 home runs on the road. Winston-Salem pitchers have suf- fered the brunt of the short fences having surrendered 64 round-trippers at home as opposed to just 28 on the road.
