Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - Wilmington smacked 13 hits, including a season-high five home runs on their way to an 11-3 bashing of Winston-Salem on Monday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Blue Rocks extended their winning streak to a season-high nine games in taking the opener of this three-game series.

The Blue Rocks pounced on an erratic Gregory Infante for three runs in the first inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Mike Moustakes walked and Nick Van Stratten was hit by a pitch. Eric Hosmer followed with a three-run blast to give Wilmington an early 3-0 lead. Derrick Robinson tacked on another run in the second inning with an RBI ground out that scored Ryan Eigsti.

After Nick Van Stratten lifted a solo shot off Infante in the third, Wilmington turned to the long ball again as Anthony Seratelli launched a three-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blue Rocks in front 8-0. Infante (1-1) was removed from the game following Seratelli's round-tripper and charged with eight runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work. He suffered his first loss since joining the Dash from Low-A Kannapolis on July 2.

Winston-Salem finally put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when second baseman Dale Mollenhauer registered an RBI ground out that brought John Curtis across the plate. The Blue Rocks answered right back with another home run in the top of the sixth. This time, it was Derrick Robinson with a two-run shot off Dan Albritton that extended Wilmington's advantage to 10-1. For Robinson, it was his second straight game with a home run after failing to go yard in his first 221 games and 895 at-bats as a Blue Rock.

Winston-Salem would muster a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth on consecutive RBI ground outs by Justin Greene and Tyler Kuhn. The Blue Rocks bullpen would thwart any chance of a Dash rally as Ray Liotta tossed three hitless innings and Eric Basurto recorded the final three outs to close out the opener of this three-game series.

Wilmington put an exclamation point on the night as Johnny Giavotella led off the ninth inning with a solo home run off Wander Perez. Wilmington starting pitcher Alex Caldera (4-8) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst as he worked five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits. He garnered his first win against the Dash in five starts this season.

Winston-Salem and Wilmington meet up in game two of this three-game series on Tuesday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will send RHP Jacob Rasner (3-2, 3.70) to the mound, while the Blue Rocks are expected to start RHP Mario Santiago (5-11, 4.26). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
