THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg won 5-2 in the series finale last night to take three out of four from Frederick in their four-game set...Tonight the Cats begin a three-game series versus Kinston and a seven-game road trip that will complete a stretch of 13 out of 17 on the road...
VS. KINSTON: The Hillcats are 8-6 against the Indians thus far this season and are 5-2 at Grainger Stadium...The last time Lynchburg came to Kinston they swept the K-Tribe in a three-game series and outscored them by a combined score of 31-9...Lynchburg has the edge in the all-time series at 146-143, but they are 64-81 at Grainger Stadium...
LOCKED OUT: Lynchburg and Frederick just completed their sixth and final series of the season last night...The Hillcats finished the season series with a 14-5 mark versus the Keys and they went 7-2 at City Stadium...The Hillcats went 5-0-1 in the six series against the Keys this season...The win last Sunday night at Harry Grove Stadium finished Lynchburg's ten games at Frederick this season with a 7-3 mark...The Cats best record against an opponent overall, at home and on the road are all versus the Keys...
FILLING THE CUPBOARD: With the recent additions of UTIL Josh Harrison and RHP Nate Adcock, Lynchburg has now had six different players this season from six different trades the Pirates have made...Harrison came from the Cubs along with RHP Kevin Hart and RHP Jose Ascanio for LHP Tom Gorzelanny and LHP John Grabow...Adcock and four other members of the Mariners system (1B Jeff Clement, SS Ronny Cedeno, RHP Aaron Pribanic and RHP Brett Lorin) for SS Jack Wilson and RHP Ian Snell...LHP Jeff Locke, who is currently in the Hillcats rotation, was moved from the Braves to the Pirates along with RHP Charlie Morton and OF Gorkys Hernandez for OF Nate McClouth...C Eric Fryer came to the Cats from the Yankees system along with RHP Casey Erickson for UTIL Eric Hinske...OF Lastings Milledge even spent a few games with Lynchburg, when the Cats were playing at Potomac...Milledge was sent to the Buccos along with RHP Joel Hanrahan from the Nationals for OF Nyjer Morgan and LHP Sean Burnett...At the beginning of the season Pittsburgh traded minor league infielder Andy Phillips to the White Sox for RHP Michael Dubee, who moved from one Carolina League team to another to become a Hillcat...
NORTHERN LIGHTS: Lynchburg just completed their fourth straight series (13 games) against a Northern Division opponent...They finshed the stretch with a 6-7 mark and went 5-2 in their seven games versus Frederick...
FITTING THE PIECES: UTIL Josh Harrison went 1-for-3 last night with his first triple and first two runs driven in this season for Lynchburg...Last night RHP Nate Adcock made his first appearance for Lynchburg and earned the victory in his Carolina League debut...Tonight LHP Rudy Owens is slated to get the start for the Cats...Owens was a first half All-Star in the South Atlantic League had a 10-1 record with a 1.70 ERA for West Virginia...Owens will be the 12th player to don the Green & Gold for the first time in the second half of the season...
BACK IN BUSINESS: INF Chase d'Arnaud returned to the line-up on Saturday night sooner than originally expected...The South Atlantic League All-Star had been out since June 15th with a sprained left thumb...In his first game back he went 1-for-4 with a walk...His single came in his first appearance back in the batters box...
TRANSACTIONS: In the last four days the Hillcats have made 11 roster moves...On July 31st, INF Angel Gonzalez was promoted to Double-A Altoona and INF Josh Harrison was assigned to Lynchburg after he was acquired in a trade from the Chicago Cubs...On August 1st, RHP Bryan Morris was placed on the Suspended List and INF Chase d'Arnaud was activated from the Disabled List...Also on the 1st, RHP Harvey Garcia was traded to the Dodgers and RHP Nate Adcock was assigned to Lynchburg after getting traded from the Mariners...Yesterday LHP Chi-Hung Cheng was released...And finally today, OF Ciro Rosero has been placed on the Disabled List and LHP Rudy Owens was promoted to Lynchburg from Low-A West Virginia...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Scott Barnes was acquired by the Indians last Tuesday from the San Fransisco Giants in exchange for 1B Ryan Garko...Barnes was originally selected by the Giants in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of St. John's University...In his three years with the Red Storm he went a combined 17-7 with a 3.39 ERA in 45 games (41 starts)...In 2 games (one start) he had no decisions and a 4.76 ERA with Short-Season Low-A Salem-Keizer...He also made six starts with full-season Low-A Augusta and had a 3-2 mark with 1.38 ERA...He pitched in Arizona Fall ball and went 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in three games in relief...He began this season with Advanced-A San Jose and went 12-3 with a 2.85 ERA in 18 starts before he was shipped to the Indians...He made his K-Tribe debut on Wednesday at Winston-Salem and he allowed three runs in five innings in taking a no-decision against the Dash...Tonight will be his first start in his new home ballpark at Grainger Stadium and his first appearance against Lynchburg...
