Winston-Salem Dash News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - Following a back-and-forth ball game Wednesday night in Asheville, the Winston-Salem Dash found themselves in a similar situation, but a late Asheville Tourists' home run was the difference as the Dash dropped only their second game in two weeks, 5-4, Thursday night at McCormick Field in front of 3,003 fans.
In the bottom of the second inning, Asheville (4-6) jumped out to a 2-0 lead highlighted by a Ryan Wrobleski double off Winston-Salem (7-3) starter Andrew Dalquist.
The Dash erased the deficit in the fourth. With a runner on and two outs, Wilfred Veras continued his tear against the Tourists jacking his third home run of the year to right, tying the game up at 2, but Asheville responded in the fifth. Logan Cerny took the lead back for the Tourists on a homer to left off Brooks Gosswein, making it 3-2.
The two sides traded runs heading to the seventh inning, with Asheville leading 4-3. But with one out and a runner in scoring position, Taishi Nakawake tied the game up at 4 on an RBI single.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Tourists had a response again, as Cerny left the park for the second time on the night, pushing Asheville back in front, 5-4.
Winston-Salem put runners on in both the eighth and the ninth but could not find the big hit to complete the comeback, as the Dash fell 5-4 in game three to the Tourists.
Veras continued his hot streak at the plate with another multi-RBI game going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI, while Nakawake drove in his second RBI of the season.
Gosswein was tabbed with the loss after throwing four-and-two-thirds, allowing three runs on seven hits and punching out six. Chase Plymell threw an inning and a third, striking out one in the later stages.
The Dash are back it for game four of the six game series against the Tourists Friday night. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. from McCormick Field.
