Winston-Salem Dash News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC - Despite trailing after the first inning, the Winston-Salem Dash continued finding big time hits in big moments, as the Dash came from behind to take game two against the Asheville Tourists, 7-5, Wednesday night at McCormick Field in front of 1,385 fans.

The Tourists (3-6) jumped out to a fast 1-0 lead over Winston-Salem (7-2) after Collin Price walked scoring Joey Loperfido, but the Dash immediately responded.

It did not take long for Winston-Salem to get runners on base and find a big hit. Alsander Womack tied the game up at one on a double to center in the top of the second driving in Wes Kath, and Terrell Tatum tacked on another bringing in Womack to give the Dash their first lead of the evening, 2-1.

Winston-Salem's clean-up hitter, Wilfred Veras, enjoyed a three-hit night in game one on Tuesday. In game two, he kept it rolling. On the first pitch Veras saw in the top of the third, he smacked his second home run on the year to right center, pushing the Dash lead to two, 3-1.

Asheville responded plating two runs in the bottom of the third off Winston-Salem reliever Noah Owen. The right hander was the third arm in for the Dash after starter Norge Vera did not get through the first inning.

Even with the bullpen working early, the hits kept coming. Loidel Chapelli, making his first appearance in five days, picked up where he left off, knocking in Tatum, giving the Dash the lead once again and for good, 4-3. Chapelli would later score on a wild pitch from Asheville pitcher Ryan Guston, building the lead to two, 5-3.

In the fifth, the Tourists cut the lead in half after a wild pitch, but Veras had a response in the sixth. With two runners in scoring position and no outs, the slugger laced a ball to right driving in Tatum and Jason Matthews, growing the Winston-Salem lead to three, 7-4.

After the Tourists got a run back in the bottom half cutting the lead again to two, the Dash bullpen took over. Former Tourist Ernesto Jaquez got the ball in the seventh and dominated. The right-hander threw two innings of shutout baseball, allowing only one hit, one walk and striking out three picking up the win.

He gave way to Winston-Salem's closer, Tristan Stivors, looking for his second save on the year, with the Dash leading 7-5. Drew Gilbert singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth bringing the tying run to the plate, but Stivors locked in, and retired the next three Tourists, closing out game two and the Tourists, 7-5.

The Dash have won four games in a row and are 7-1 over the last eight games. Offensively Winston-Salem was led by Veras with another multi-hit night driving in three, while Womack picked up a multi-hit game for the fourth straight game.

Winston-Salem can take at least a split of this six-game series with a win on Thursday against the Tourists. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. from McCormick Field.
