Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash (12-12) fell 4-0 against the Hickory Crawdads (10-14) on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a six-game series.
Isaiah Carranza (1-4) had a shot at redemption from his first start in the series and fared well until running into trouble in the fourth frame. Jake Guenther drew a four-pitch walk and took second on a single from David Garcia. A single to center field from Pedro Gonzalez was botched on a pickup attempt from Duke Ellis, scoring both Garcia and Guenther. Soon after, Ryan Anderson took a base on balls and was driven to third on the Gonzalez single. Frainyer Chavez grounded into a 6-3 fielder's choice to plate Anderson and put the Crawdads up 3-0 in the fourth.
Carranza was relieved after four innings by Dan Metzdorf, whom Hickory tested in the seventh. Jose Acosta connected for a single and motored around the bases to score on a double from Kole Enright.
The Dash created a glimmer of hope in the ninth inning, as Luis Curbelo reached on a walk and darted to third on a double by Yolbert Sanchez. Harvin Mendoza then strutted to first on a walk to load the bases, but luck ran out as a weak tapper rolled down the first base line and was thrown in time to first to shut the door on the Dash in a series-tying 4-0 loss.
Carranza, despite an improvement in line score, took the loss for the Dash. The young righthander Ronny Henriquez dominated through six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out eight. The efforts of Henriquez (1-2) earned him his inaugural win in 2021.
The Dash have Monday off and then trek to Greensboro on Tuesday, where they will face the Greensboro Grasshoppers, High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, in a six-game series from First National Bank Field.
First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:15 p.m. on https://www.milb.com/winston-salem/team/broadcast-corner
