FREDERICK, Md. - Despite a quality start from Tanner Banks, the Dash fell 3-2 to Frederick in 10 innings on Monday at Nymeo Field.

Winston-Salem (4-2, 45-31) got on the board in the top of the second inning against Frederick (2-4, 37-38) lefty Zac Lowther. After Gavin Sheets singled to lead off the inning, he moved to second base on a single from Yermin Mercedes. Later in the inning, Sheets scored from third on a double play grounder.

Sheets finished the game 3-for-5 with a double to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Keys tied the game against Banks in the bottom of the frame, when Chris Clare hit a solo home run over the left field fence. The Dash southpaw cruised through his next four innings, however, scattering two hits to keep Frederick off the scoreboard.

The Dash retook the lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Forbes. After Micker Adolfo and Sheets hit back-to-back singles to open the inning, Mercedes drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases. Forbes scorched the 0-1 pitch from reliever Steven Klimek to center field, but right at Cole Billingsly. Adolfo tagged up from third to score and give Winston-Salem a 2-1 lead.

Banks allowed the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, but nothing more. First, Clare doubled to lead off the inning, and moved to third on a single from Daniel Fajardo. Then, the Keys executed a squeeze play to tie the game. Billingsly bunted up the first base line and although Sheets fielded cleanly and threw home, Mercedes could not apply the tag in time and Clare slid home safely to tie the game at two.

Banks finished the night allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out two without issuing a walk to register his eighth quality start of the season. It is his third straight outing of at least seven innings pitched.

The Dash had a chance to score in the top of the tenth inning against Tyler Erwin (2-3), but could not bring home Luis Robert, who started the inning on second base per Minor League Baseball's new extra-inning rules.

Kyle Kubat (2-1) entered in relief in the eighth inning and retired the first eight batters he faced, including the first two batters in the bottom of the tenth inning. But, with two outs and a runner on second, Preston Palmeiro stroked a single into left-center field to bring around the pinch-runner Alejandro Juvier as the game-winning run.

Winston-Salem's series against Frederick continues on Wednesday. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m., and fans can catch all of the action on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio App.

Following their nine-game road trip, the Dash will return for a five-game homestand starting on July 4th. The festivities for the Fourth of July will feature a pregame party beginning at 4:30 p.m., which includes an open Foothill Brewpen, $5 Kids Zone entry and the band Stereo Dolls performing on the patio.
