Palmeiro Single Helps Keys Walk It off against the Dash

FREDERICK, MD - Preston Palmeiro hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Frederick Keys (37-38, 2-4) a 3-2 win over the Winston-Salem Dash (45-31, 4-2). It was the Keys fourth walk-off win of the year, and second in extra innings.
After Tyler Erwin stranded two men in the top of the 10th, the Keys began with a runner at second in the bottom of the frame. After Kyle Kubat retired the first two batters, Palmeiro came to bat. He then smacked a single to left-center field to score the pinch runner Alejandro Juvier and give the Keys the win.
The teams traded single markers in the second inning. The Dash loaded the bases with nobody out. Gavin Sheets and Yermin Mercedes singled, and Ti'Quan Forbes reached on a sacrifice bunt. Zac Lowther then induced a double play that allowed a run to score, and got out of the jam with a strikeout. The Keys scored their run thanks to a Chris Clare solo home run.
Winston-Salem retook the lead in the top of the sixth. Once again, the Dash loaded the bases with nobody out. Micker Adolfo singled, and Sheets followed with a single of his own. Following a Mercedes walk, Adolfo scored on a sacrifice fly. Steven Klimek evaded further damage by getting two groundouts to keep it a 2-1 game.
The Keys tied the game in the seventh. Clare doubled to lead off the frame, and moved to third on a Daniel Fajardo single. Cole Billingsley then bunted a ball toward first base, and Clare took off for home. The first baseman, Sheets, came up with the ball and threw home, but Clare dove head first into home and avoided the tag to tie the game at two.
Erwin (2-3) earned the win for the Keys after firing a scoreless top of the 10th. Kubat (2-1) took the loss, surrendering the walk-off hit. Lowther fired five innings and allowed just one run, as his ERA with the Keys moved to 0.71. Keys pitchers did not surrender a hit with runners in scoring position, as the Dash went 0-for-17.
The Keys and Dash play game three of their five-game series on Wednesday night. The Keys will send right-hander Cristian Alvarado (6-5, 3.92) to the mound. He will be opposed by Dash left-hander John Parke (0-0,--). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., and the game can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio app.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. In 2017, the Keys received the Esurance Home Field Advantage Award for Carolina League for the second straight season, after leading the circuit in highest percentage of attendance based on ballpark capacity.
