Darling Posts Quality Start in Loss

Alexandria, LA - Harlingen WhiteWings (9-17) starter Bobby Darling (0-3) allowed three runs in six innings, Alexandria Aces (13-12) starter Ramon Portillo (1-2) was equal to the task, allowing two runs in six innings to win 3-2 tonight at Bringhurst Field.
Darling retired the first seven hitters and nine of the first ten, before getting into a little trouble in the fourth. Tyler Farrar led off with an infield single, went to third on a Selwyn Langaigne single, and scored on a Patrick O'Sullivan ground out to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Bryan Sabatella led off with a single and Eddie Fitzpatrick followed with an RBI-double. Three batters later, O'Sullivan hit an RBI-single to make it 3-0.
The WhiteWings broke through against Portillo in the sixth as Ryan Fox reached on an error and Brian Nichols followed with an RBI-triple. David Fowler hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2.
That would be all for Portillo, who went six innings allowing one earned run on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
On the other side, Darling went six innings, allowing six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.
Juan Carlos Ovalles blew away the WhiteWings in the seventh and eighth innings, striking out six of the eight hitters he faced.
Juan Jimenez gave the WhiteWings a chance to come back with two scoreless innings of relief.
Charlie Foster pitched a perfect ninth for his fist save.
The WhiteWings and Aces complete the three-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Jorge Lugo (3-0) will face right-hander Wayne Hedden (0-1).
