Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (10-15) jumped to an early lead and never looked back as they cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Amarillo Dillas (16-7) Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Coyotes dusted off the Dillas early in their first shutout of the season as they put up seven runs in the first three innings of play.

The Coyotes pitching also played a key role in the victory as starting pitcher Miguel Martinez (3-1) pitched an excellent game striking out seven batters and allowing no runs through five innings of play. Martinez picked up the win while Dillas starting pitcher Josh Smith (0-2) picked up the loss.

The Coyotes dominated the second inning as they were able to put up five runs on five hits and had the opportunity to rack in more runs as they ended the inning with the bases loaded. None the less, the Coyotes did their damage as the Dillas were never able to put up a run throughout the game.

Coyotes stretched the lead to seven in the next inning after Angelo Fermin hit a two-run RBI double to center fieldbringing in Logan Wood from second and Nick Aranda from first.

The Coyotes capped the game off in the seventh inning when Gary Roche brought in Eddie Wilson from third on a RBI double to center field to give them an 8-0 lead.

The Coyotes and Dillas head into the Rubber Match tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05. It is also CP&L "Buyout Night" tomorrow so there will be free admission for everyone.

Toro Trevino is expected to take the mound for the Coyotes and Marcos Castillo will start for the Dillas.
