Broncos bats silenced in loss

San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos offense could not get going against the San Angelo Colts on Monday night as they fell by a score of 5-1 at Foster Field. The Broncos finish their 6 game trip with the 3rd game of a 3 game series with the San Angelo Colts on Monday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).

The Colts would get on the board in the 2nd inning. Benny Craig led off with a single and went to 2nd base on a single by Jose Torres. Wyn Diggs hit a groundball to Arnoldo Ponce who flipped the ball to Matt Lawman who dropped the ball committing the error and making the bases loaded. Charley Belew would then hit a sacrifice fly advancing all runners and giving San Angelo an 1-0 lead.

The Colts would score again in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With two outs Wyn Diggs doubled. Then Charley Belew hit a shallow fly ball in left field which Arnoldo Ponce dropped for an error allowing Diggs to score and Belew to go to 2nd. Tyrone Pendergrass then singled up the middle scoring Belew and making the score 3-0. All 3 runs for San Angelo were unearned in the game so far.

Colts starter Luke Massetti was perfect through the 4 1/3 innings. Santiago Guerrero would single up the middle to break up the perfect game. Arnoldo Ponce would then single putting runners on 1st and 2nd for the Broncos with only one out. But Ivan Reyes would fly out, and Matt Lawman hit into a fielders choice to end the threat keeping the score 3-0 San Angelo.

Edgard Clemente would get Laredo on the board in the top of the 7th inning, hitting a lead off solo home run. That homer was his 8th of the season and cut the Colts lead to 3-1.

The Colts would tack on some insurance runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. With one out John Anderson doubled and would then score on single Bryan Frichter. Frichter would advance to 2nd base on the throw by Dwayne White. The next batter Andres Rodriguez would also single scoring Frichter and giving the Colts a 5-1 lead.

That would be it for Broncos starter Santo Hernandez who went 7 innings giving up 5 runs 2 of which were earned. He gave up 9 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9.

San Angelo's starter Luke Massetti would also go 7+ innings. He left the game after Matt Lawman led off the 8th inning reaching base on an error. Massetti would give up 1 run on 4 hits, he walked no one and struck out 8.

The Broncos could not muster any more offense in the 8th against reliever Justin Robinson. In the 9th inning against reliever Miliade Venas the Broncos put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out but failed to score as they fell to San Angelo by a score of 5-1.

The Broncos scored 1run on 6 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Colts scored 5 runs on 9 hits and committed 1 error.

The Broncos now fall to 13-12 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Tuesday night in San Angelo to play the finale of a 3 game set against the Colts at 7:05.
