
Dan Johnson to Participate in 2012 Triple-A Home Run Derby

(Fort Mill, SC) -Charlotte Knights infielder Dan Johnson, who has 21 home runs in 85 games this season, was named as a participant for the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game Home Run Derby, as announced earlier today by the International League. This year's Home Run Derby will be held on Monday, July 9 at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY at 7:00 p.m.
Johnson, 32, won the 2010 Triple-A Home Run Derby held in Lehigh Valley. The Minnesota native is currently hitting .283 with 21 home runs and 63 RBIs. He is second in the IL in home runs and RBIs, first in games played (85), first in on-base percentage (.428), fourth in slugging percentage (.569), second in runs scored (52) and first in walks (71). He is the only active IL player with 20 or more home runs. The current IL leader in home runs is former Knights slugger Brad Eldred (24), who is now playing in Japan after beginning the season with Toledo.
Along with Johnson, players Matt LaPorta (Columbus) and Valentino Pascucci (Buffalo) have been selected to represent the International League squad. Joey Butler (Round Rock), Mike Hessman (Oklahoma City) and Luis Jimenez (Tacoma) will represent the Pacific Coast League team. Hessman is the overall Triple-A Leader with 25 home runs.
Two days later, Johnson will start the game at third base for the IL All-Star Team. He, along with Greg Golson were voted in to start the game. Due to injury, however, Golson will not play in the game. Charlie Leesman and Josh Phegley have also been selected to represent the Knights at this year's Triple-A All-Star Game, which will take place on Wednesday, July 11 in Buffalo, NY.
