Dallas Sidekicks News Release
Allen, TX - Richardson native Cody Ellis' three goals led the Dallas Sidekicks to an 8-7 victory over the Brownsville Barracudas on Saturday afternoon at Allen Event enter. With the win, the Sidekicks improve to 3-4 on the season going into a busy couple of weeks.
The game got off to a slow start, a battle of possession and few shots through 10 minutes until Brownsville forward Luis Angel Landin caught Sidekicks goalkeeper Milo out of position, scoring the only goal of the first quarter.
The second quarter was a completely different story, an onslaught of seven goals beginning with a high shot from Brownsville's Diego Rodriguez at 1:08. Dallas answered with two straight, VcMore Eligwe powering through the Barracuda defensive, followed by the tying goal from defender Clint Ritter - his first as a Dallas Sidekick. Moises Gonzales put Brownsville back in the lead at 8:30, but another bout of Sidekicks offense followed from forward Athur Ivo and Ellis, a defender. Ivo impressed, keeping control of the ball through a crowd and eventually getting it to a wide open Ellis who blasted it in. Less than a minute later Ivo scored, and Ellis quickly added his second to give Dallas a 5-3 lead going into halftime.
It was a quick start in the third quarter, Brownsville forward Ricardo Diegues scoring just 1:54. Three goals in less than two minutes followed, with Moises Gonzales netting for his side, Landin getting his second of the game, and Ellis scoring from the boards to complete a hat trick at 4:41. From there it was a scoreless nine minutes, a pass from Ricardinho to forward Patrick Shamu breaking through to put the Sidekicks up 7-6 going into the final 15 minutes of play.
3:05 into the fourth quarter, Ivo netted his second of the match and eighth goal of the season. Another hat trick followed, this one belonging to Landin. The Sidekicks were on their toes for the remaining 10 minutes, the defense hanging on through both a powerplay and a sixth attacker to hold on to an 8-7 win.
The Sidekicks will remain at home for two games against the Southwest Division, firstly taking on Saltillo Rancho Seco (2-3) on Dec. 29 at 7:35 p.m. Four days later, Brownsville makes their way back to Allen Event Center for a 7:05 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Jan. 2. This will be the team's annual Alumni Game at halftime, where Sidekicks greats of the past will face off against each other.
