Dallas Sidekicks News Release
Allen, Texas (Feb. 21, 2015) - Despite a loss to close out their regular season, the Dallas Sidekicks (14-6) are celebrating their third straight trip to the playoffs. Powerplay success and ball control led the Monterrey Flash (18-2) to a 6-2 victory over the Sidekicks at Allen Event Center on Saturday night. The loss has no effect on the league standings, the Sidekicks having cemented their spot as the number two team in the Southern Division, while Monterrey remains number one. The Sidekicks will host number three seed Oxford City FC of Texas at Allen Event Center on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in round one of the playoffs.
The first half saw two Monterrey goals, the first just 1:21 into the match from Carlos Pichardo, who tucked it into the upper corner and out of Sidekicks goalkeer Milo's reach. A successful shot on the powerplay from Yotsi Martinez put the Flash up 2-0 at 9:28. Dallas successfully killed another Monterrey powerplay late in the period. The second period saw opportunities from both sides, but neither team could connect, Monterrey taking their lead into halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, forward Alex Megson put the Sidekicks on the board, converting a pass from Cameron Brown and blasting from distance past Monterrey goalkeeper Diego Reynoso. Flash midfielder Alex Caceres struck back with two goals 90 seconds apart, the second on the powerplay. Edgar Flores extended Monterrey's lead to 5-1 about 30 seconds later at 12:02. A goal from Dallas midfielder Ricardinho at 4:29 in the fourth thrilled the crowd of 4,600-plus at Allen Event Center, but the Sidekicks could not get an offensive flow going, Erick Tovar scoring at 12:13 to put Monterrey up 6-2 for the win.
The Sidekicks have earned a spot in the playoffs for the third straight season, clinching a home playoff berth by notching second place. Number three seed Oxford City FC of Texas (12-8) will make their way to Allen Event Center for a single elimination game Sunday, March 1st at 2 p.m. The winner will face the number one seed Monterrey at Arena Monterrey on Sunday, March 8th to decide who advances out of the Southern Division.
Tickets for all Dallas Sidekicks home games start at just $9 and are available via Ticketmaster or by calling 469-200-GOAL. For more information about the Dallas Sidekicks, visit www.dallassidekicks.net.
