HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads, 1st-Half Northern Division Champions, took the walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth, 7-6, against the Delmarva Shorebirds, before 1,551 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The Crawdads (59-39, 19-11) wasted no time moving in front, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first against RHP Scott Copeland. SS Jurickson Profar and LF Jake Skole started the inning with a single and a walk, respectively. Both runners moved up ninety feet on a ground out, before Profar came home on an RBI grounder by 1B Andrew Clark, which also moved Skole to third. A wild pitch unleashed by Copeland enabled Skole to score, putting Hickory ahead, 2-0.

After the Shorebirds (46-54, 11-19) cut the lead in half with an RBI single by DH Joe Oliveira in the top of the second against RHP Joe Van Meter, Hickory countered with three runs in the bottom of the stanza. RF Josh Richmond worked a leadoff walk and moved to third on a single from 2B Odubel Herrera. Herrera then stole second base, before DH Kellin Deglan drove a sacrifice fly to left field to score Richmond. One out later, Profar brought in Herrera with a two-out RBI single, and then raced all the way home on an RBI double by Skole, making it 4-1.

The Shorebirds began chipping away again, knocking in three runs (only one earned) through the fourth and fifth innings. With two on and one down in the fourth, SS Garabez Rosa bounced an RBI grounder to score C Michael Ohlman from third, making it 4-2. RF Mikey Planeta then led off the fifth with a single. Two outs later, 3B Ty Kelly drew a walk to keep the inning going. LF Jeremy Nowak followed with a grounder to second that got by Herrera for an error, allowing the inning to continue and Planeta to score. With runners at the corners, the Shorebirds pulled off a double steal with Kelly streaking home on the play, bringing Delmarva within one run of tying it, 5-4.

The Crawdads stretched the lead back out with a run in the bottom of the seventh. C Tomas Telis got on with a one-out double and stole third base. After Clark drew a walk, 3B Christian Villanueva drove in Telis with a sacrifice fly, moving Hickory in front by two, 6-4.

RHP Francisco Mendoza dealt a scoreless eighth for the 'Dads and started the ninth by retiring the first batter of the inning. However, CF Brenden Webb doubled and Kelly brought him in with an RBI single, making it 6-5 and chasing Mendoza from the mound. LHP Jimmy Reyes (W, 5-0) took over to face LF Jeremy Nowak, who singled Kelly to second base. C Michael Ohlman followed with a base hit as well, loading the bases with one out. After Reyes struck out Oliveira, SS Garabez Rosa forced in the game-tying run with an RBI walk, keeping the contest going at 6-6.

RHP Travis Strong (L, 0-1) retook the mound to start the bottom of the ninth for Delmarva. Profar led off with an infield single, followed quickly by a four-pitch free pass taken by Skole. Telis then laid down a sacrifice bunt that Kelly fielded inside the third base line and fired past first base. The error enabled Profar to race in and score, as the Crawdads took the 7-6 walk-off victory.
