Rome Emperors News Release

Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 2-0 Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,244. Atlanta Braves infielder Chipper Jones went 1-1 in the second game of his rehab assignment with a single in the first and a deep sacrifice fly in the fifth. The sacrifice fly scored the first run of the game and put the Braves on top for good.

The story of the afternoon was Braves' starting pitcher Gary Moran as he put together his strongest start of the season and one of the best by Rome's rotation this season. Moran went seven and a third innings and allowed no runs on four hits. The tall righty retired fifteen batters in a row from the second inning through the seventh inning and gave the Braves exactly what they needed to bounce back from last night's loss.

The only two runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth when Jones hit a deep sacrifice fly to right to score Matt Lipka from third. Evan Gattis followed with a single to left to put runners on first and second and bring Chris Garcia to the plate. The Braves first Baseman delivered with an RBI single over third base to score Tommy La Stella and give the Braves a 2-0 lead. The slim lead would be all Moran and reliever Gus Schlosser needed as they shut out the Intimidators to give the Braves a 2-0 win.

Gary Moran (4-1) earns the win for Rome and Spencer Arroyo (7-6 ) takes the loss for Kannapolis. Gus Schlosser picks up his fourth save of the season.

Game three of the four game series will be tomorrow night at 7pm. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
