
'Dads Walk-Off on Novoa's Fourth Hit of Night

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads defeated the West Virginia Power in walk-off fashion on Tuesday night in the series opener. Melvin Novoa delivered the game-winning hit with two outs in the ninth to give the 'Dads a 5-4 victory.
The Crawdads jumped in front of the Power with a pair of runs in the first inning. Josh Jung and Ryan Anderson singled to put two runners on for Melvin Novoa. Novoa drove both in with his seventeenth double of the season.
A trio of singles by Jax Biggers, Frainyer Chavez, and Jung gave the 'Dads a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
The Power offense sparked back in the top of the third inning to take a 4-3 lead.
The 'Dads tied things up in the bottom of the eighth with Novoa's leadoff homerun. The homer was Novoa's third hit of the evening and brought him within a triple of the cycle.
Miguel Aparicio led off the bottom of the ninth by drawing a walk. Tyreque Reed and Josh Jung hit hard liners to left but both were caught by the left fielder. Jonathan Ornelas drew a walk to bring Novoa up to the plate. Novoa poked a ball to shallow left that allowed Aparicio to dash home and score the 'Dads winning run.
The series continues tomorrow evening with Video Game Night. It is also Kids Win Wednesday presented by NC Pediatric Dentistry and all kids 12 and under can get a free ticket, meal voucher, and voucher for speed pitch, bounce house, and carousel. Tomorrow night is Wine Wednesday and Catawba Farms and Carolina Vines will be at the Frans for a wine sampling on the concourse.
