Augusta GreenJackets News Release

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA: The Augusta GreenJackets (53-47, 17-15) dropped the series opener on Tuesday night to the Columbia Fireflies (39-59, 15-17) by a final score of 2-1 at Segra Park. The game was delayed 44-minutes from the start because of rain.

After the delay to start the game, the Jackets decided to start the evening with Keith Weisenberg on the mound, rather than Logan Webb. Weisenberg finished his night after three innings, and he allowed just one-run. The lone run scored in the 3rd inning on a wild pitch, and Gerson Molina scored to give the Fireflies a 1-0 advantage.

Simeon Woods-Richardson turned in another great performance against the Jackets in 2019. 12 days ago, he went five-innings and he allowed only one-run. On Tuesday, he tossed five-innings yet again, but this time he did not allow any runs. He finished the night with eight strikeouts.

Columbia tacked on another run in the 5th inning. A sacrifice fly for Mark Vientos extended the Columbia lead to 2-0. Logan Webb came out of the Jackets bullpen and tossed five-innings of one-run baseball. He finished with five strikeouts as he made his 2nd appearance on a rehab assignment with the GreenJackets.

The Jackets added a run in the 9th inning when Simon Whiteman, who pinch-ran for Jacob Gonzalez, scored on a wild pitch. That was all the scoring for the Jackets though, and Allan Winans collected his 7th save of the year for Columbia.

Player of the Game: Ismael Munguia, 2-4

Munguia ends his night going 2-4, but nobody could bring home the Jackets leadoff man. Munguia now has 24 multi-hit games in 2019, and he lifted his batting average to .291.

Tomorrow's Game: 7:05 PM @ Columbia Fireflies (New York Mets), Segra Park, Columbia, South Carolina

Pitching Matchup: (COL) RHP Luis Nova (5-8, 5.23 ERA) vs (AUG) LHP Seth Corry (6-2, 2.09 ERA)

Seth Corry will make the start in the 2nd game of the series against the Columbia Fireflies. Corry's last outing was the best of the season. He retired the first 15 batters he faced. In the 6th inning, he allowed a leadoff infield-hit ending his perfect game hopes. He finished the outing after six-innings, and he allowed just one hit, while earning his 5th consecutive win. The southpaw is listed as the #25 overall prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization. He was a 3rd round selection by the Giants in the 2017 MLB Draft.

Willy Taveras will make the start for the Fireflies on Wednesday night. Taveras has gone at least five-innings in each of his last four starts. The right-hander has collected 81 strikeouts, and he has issued only 24 walks so far in 2019. He is 12th in the South Atlantic League this year in innings with 96.1. In his last start on July 18th, Taveras went five-innings and he allowed only two runs despite receiving the loss. Taveras signed with the New York Mets in 2016. He is from Villa Isabela, Dominican Republic.
