GREENVILLE, SC - A three-run homer by CF Jordan Akins in the top of the seventh lifted the Hickory Crawdads to the 8-4 lead against the Greenville Drive, before 5,150 fans at Fluor Field in Greenville on Saturday night.

After Greenville (21-21, 55-57) struck first in the bottom of the first inning against LHP Kevin Matthews, the 'Dads responded right away in the top of the second. On the inning's first pitch from RHP Jason Garcia, LF Alejandro Selen launched a solo home run to tie it, 1-1. After 3B Drew Robinson was hit by a pitch, DH Jorge Alfaro bounced into a fielder's choice, reaching first base safely. Alfaro then darted home on an RBI double by 1B Trever Adams, swinging Hickory in front, 2-1.

The Crawdads (23-20, 59-53) doubled their runs with a pair more in the top of the third. SS Luis Sardinas started the frame with a walk, before moving to second base on a balk by Garcia. Garcia hurt himself on the play and was replaced by RHP Matty Ott. Sardinas moved to third base on a ground out, and then raced home when Ott struck out RF Zach Cone on a wild pitch. Sardinas made it home safely with Cone able to reach first base as well. After a wild pitch moved Cone to second, he took third on a fly out to right field. Robinson then ripped an RBI single to center field, plating Cone for the 4-1 lead.

The Drive, though, came back to tie it in the bottom of the fourth. With two on and one away, DH Jose Garcia skied a three-run homer over the left field wall, squaring the score, 4-4.

Hickory RHP Paul Schwendel (W, 1-0) and Ott alternated scoreless relief innings through the middle frames, before the 'Dads cracked the tie in the top of the seventh against RHP Justin Erasmus (L, 1-3). Adams led off with a walk and quickly sprinted to third on a double by C Kellin Deglan. Akins then belted a three-run bomb over the left-center field wall, giving the Crawdads the 7-4 advantage.

Schwendel tossed his fourth scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth, before Deglan belted a solo bomb in the top of the ninth to add to the Hickory lead. RHP Phil Klein then tossed a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, closing the 8-4 win for Hickory.
